A surgical component which serves as an orthodontic anchor between the bone of the jaw or skull and a dental prosthesis is called a dental implant. A dental prosthesis can range from a bridge, a denture to a facial prosthesis. Osseointegration is a biological process in which a material forms a bond with the bone. This process is the foundation of modern implant dentistry. Computed tomography along with CAM/CAD simulations and surgical guidelines are used to determine the position of implants with respect to the adjacent teeth. Temporary anchorage devices are a special type of small diameter dental implants which are used to assist the movement of the tooth.
